Both days I spent about 10 minutes running through the feint by stramazon. Practicing the motions of what we learned in class on Friday.

The downward blows I feel more comfortable with, but need more practice to make it more smooth. Sometimes it feels smooth and other times it does not.

End of the week

So this was a basic week, but good stuff. I’m continuing to read/learn and do some sword work. I’d like to work more on my assessment videos and will try and find some partnered time throughout the week to do so. Actually have Tuesday set up already to practice with Pete!

Saturday and Sunday

I finished Viggini book over these two days. Umm Good stuff for the time. Interesting to know he was the first to advocate for point forward guards and what seems to be a thrust. But the book looked at in it’s entirety it slim. I did enjoy the style of book. Written in dialogue.

Attended IFG practice. We practiced the Zwech. It was interesting on many fronts.

1) The leverage you gain from the structure of the cut combined with the high hands and reach

I ended up not doing anything the rest of this week. Mostly I was lazy, and Sunday I was helping put on a barn roof. No real excuse, other than I didn’t feel like doing any sword work.

Last weeks longsword live class on advanced flow.

Wednesday

Had a class on Manciolinos side sword. We went through this his attacks from guardia alta. I thought I wasn’t that bad at sword and buckler, but come to find out I tend to forget about the buckler quite a bit. I want to accomplish the tactics with sidesword alone. interesting thought.

Tuesday

Watched about a 30 minutes of the Instructor skill for apprentice longsword.

Monday

Taught class on grappling when you have won the line.

Next time I teach this I’ll need to teach it from the perspective of exchanging the thrust. Ran into some tempo issues when you attack > win the line > then decided to grapple. I think the students will conceptualize it better in the exchange of thrusts instead.

This week I’m proud that I managed to do something everyday. I was nice to get out with my friend and drill/practice for a while too.

I loved practicing while charging the car in the parking lot and all the ppl around looking at me funny. 🙂

I wish I could have gotten more videos shot though. Need to find a consistent partner to help me with that.

Longsword live class. Flow is something I should be more comfortable with. Keeping the knees inline, and focusing on the width of my stance. Moving from a wide stance to a more narrow stance was difficult. Ah yes, Devon mentioned that I was bobbing up and down as well. haha. My nemesis.

I like these longer actions to practice. It’s a brian teaser to get into the flow, and great to chain motions together.

Taught a class on longsword grappling today. We covered how tot enter from the outside line. I really enjoyed learning/reinforcing that you have to earn a distance in which to grapple. We talked alot about over reaching for targets.
