End of the week recap
This was a “failed” week. I lost motivation this week. Fortunately I still touched swords 4/7 days. And in all honesty, above 50% is not a failure.
I like that I got 8(ish) videos posted. I like that I got some live instruction. I like that I got some free play in. And I like that I made it IFG practice (learn some german and network).
My “failed” week wasn’t half bad.

Saturday
Attended IFG practice. We practiced the Zwech. It was interesting on many fronts.
1) The leverage you gain from the structure of the cut combined with the high hands and reach
2) Learning that the structure is best with the hands high and shoved far forward. Unlike the Italian way of keeping the hands back near the head.
3) Duello teaches control control. This was only one class but it seems to springy. Athletic. “I’ll hit you, and whether i land the blow or not, I will strike around and hit you again” ha I need to go to their practice more to learn these tactical choices.
Interesting thing i learned. I was playing with a partner and he was tearing my hand and arms apart. Great measure control and use of the upward false edge flick. I tried many things. i tried baiting him out so i could interact with his blade. I tried striking directly. I tried playing a point refused game. I may have done these poorly, or not, but he was still ripping me apart. I decided to get low. I really squatted deep and tried to keep my hands so low they couldn’t possibly be a target. IT WORKED! After taking that away this partner had no other thing. Good lesson.

Friday
Longsword Live Class.
-
Thursday
Shot some solo videos for assessments. Trying to clean up a couple re-submits and a few next ones.
-
Monday
Taught class on grappling. Counter grappling specifically.
Shot some assessment videos as well. Keep plugging away at those.

I ended up not doing anything the rest of this week. Mostly I was lazy, and Sunday I was helping put on a barn roof. No real excuse, other than I didn’t feel like doing any sword work.
-
Thursday
Last weeks longsword live class on advanced flow.
-
Wednesday
Had a class on Manciolinos side sword. We went through this his attacks from guardia alta. I thought I wasn’t that bad at sword and buckler, but come to find out I tend to forget about the buckler quite a bit. I want to accomplish the tactics with sidesword alone. interesting thought.
