      Monday

Taught class on grappling when you have won the line.

Next time I teach this I’ll need to teach it from the perspective of exchanging the thrust. Ran into some tempo issues when you attack > win the line > then decided to grapple. I think the students will conceptualize it better in the exchange of thrusts instead.

I feel like I haven’t been sticking to a strict schedule when I write it out. So I’m changing the format a little. I really like the contingency section so that is staying. The days of the week will stay when I have a concrete thing to do. And I’m changing number two to intention.

This week I’m proud that I managed to do something everyday. I was nice to get out with my friend and drill/practice for a while too.

I loved practicing while charging the car in the parking lot and all the ppl around looking at me funny. 🙂

I wish I could have gotten more videos shot though. Need to find a consistent partner to help me with that.

      Thursday

Technically I didn’t accomplish my full 30 minutes today. I only accomplished about 10-15 minutes.

I practiced the gioco largo actions: Mandritto provocation, mandritto clearing, reverso clearing, and a reverso strike. With footwork, still, passing, offline pass, crossline pass.

It’s a very complicated action where i was first working on making my feet move in the correct toe orientation. Then I worked on the sword work. Focusing the bring the hands back over the head all but the first reverso. Work to tie it all together and do it at speed.

      Still needs some work. 🙂

      Wednesday

Practiced with a friend for a while. It was nice to kinda do our own thing but then come together and do some stuff together. We talked about boxing combat attitudes and how to relate them to HEMA.

I practiced some flow facing changes. It was a lot easy in the open and not worrying about a confirmed space of my living room. I felt more stabile, and focused on not bobbing up and down in my steps.

Then went to a couple hours talking about manciolinos guards.

Grappling practice in class last night. Was a really great practice! and had 9 students to boot!

Grappling for 2 hours is tiring haha. I couldn’t find anyone willing to help me shoot partner videos though. 🙁

    End of the week recap

This week I’m proud that I did at least 30 minutes of “stuff” every day. Staying in line with the 30 for 30 challenge. I really want to see if I can make it. Given the rain and wind I didn’t want to practice outside at all, which at at times was a detriment. Quite a few days I watched videos or read, which is great!, but I’d like to physically practice a bit more.

    How can I overcome this?

We have class Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sunday that I don’t attend. While not the play that I prefer I could join those classes.

I could suck it up and go outside in the weather.

I could head to the gym during other practices and do my own training. Just use it as a space.

I could head to the gym if there are no other cross fit classes going on.

All in all I’m happy that I worked everyday this week. At that I shot some videos this week. Limited supply to partners means I need to capitalize when I can.

    Sunday

Longsword live class. Flow is something I should be more comfortable with. Keeping the knees inline, and focusing on the width of my stance. Moving from a wide stance to a more narrow stance was difficult. Ah yes, Devon mentioned that I was bobbing up and down as well. haha. My nemesis.

    Friday

Finished the “pedagogical progression of control” webinar. This is something I should rewatch twice a year.

    Stretched while I watched/listened. 🙂
