Spent 50 minutes this morning working on a new rapier and dagger form I’m developing.
Also spent some time planning with my partner how to keep my mastery practice consistent while we pack, move, and I run the swordplay masterclass. Was good to spend some of my training time on this.
I also setup a new “minimum viable practice” timer in Seconds for use when things get hectic — strangely enough I had not set this up something explicitly for this until now.

Glad you’ve decided to fan that spark. Be sure to check out the bonuses, I think they’ll help you setup some of the structure that will help you in this course but more importantly in keeping space for your passion.

Got out to do some Misty Morning Sword Practice, this time with Sidesword. Shot a little video for the holiday.
The pre-beginning of the Swordplay Masterclass has already been inspiring to me. I am so thrilled to be working with such a passionate group of practitioners.
I hope this provides a little inspiration in return:

Great to have you in the program Brooke! I’ve missed having you in Vancouver, glad we managed to chase you down online. 🙂
I think those 1980s power ballads should serve you well in focusing your training, provided you can staunch the tears.
Looking forward to helping you take your training to the next level.

Hi Karen and Daniel! I’m so glad to have both of you joining the program together. Having a partner at home will certainly be an asset! I look forward to seeing you both in person sometime in the not too distant future as well.
I think this will be a really great experience to share together, to set a greater foundation for you and for Daniel to deepen his knowledge and ability.
Looking forward to spending time with you both in the program.

Hi Stela! Thanks so much for sharing your story.
I resonate with so much of what you shared. Dance is still a passion of mine though I have focused mostly on partnered and social dance with some contemporary and contact improvisation as well. That has sadly been on hold even more thoroughly than swordplay throughout the pandemic.
I’m glad that you have found a home for your passionate interest in medieval history and European martial art. Vitor speaks really highly of you as a student and practitioner. I’m so glad to have you here.

Thrilled you signed up David! I expected I’d see you here. Glad I wasn’t disappointed. 🙂
Interestingly enough a hockey stick played a part in my first sword fighting but I was using the hockey stick as a sword!
Looking forward to helping you on your journey of bringing mastery into your life as you step beyond dabbling.

So great to have you here Jeff! And also great to meet Billie! I understand how easily horsemanship can suck one in! Perhaps we’ll get to touch on a bit of the mounted combat background of our art during the course as well.

I would also love for folks to share what they’re currently using.
- What type of training sword are you using?
- Do you have a sword dummy? Or did you create one for your homework?
- What type of target dummy or tools do you have in place? Did you create any in your homework?
A few people shared their really cool training dummies in the Bonus discussion. Please share those here!
Looking forward to seeing what awesome aids people are putting in place to support their learning.

Nice work Jeff! One thing I really notice is how good your order is. You uniformly were sending the weapon first and keeping solid body connection to the cut.

I love how you’re playing with the flow Stela. Nice work on pivoting and being in charge of when you switch direction, sometimes after several cuts sometimes after just one.
