Week 1
Focus: Time on the Second Spadone Assalto. I’d like to finish it.
Plan: Get back to my martial meditation in the mornings. Spend a little time on the assault each day.
Contingency: Start translating Pagano.

Log for the week
– Practiced everyday even with a lot going on.
– Didn’t get to all the things I wanted to get to but held my rhythm.
– Worked three days on the Spadone Assalto, rememorizing the first 8 parts and reviewing the 9th and 10th parts.
– Divided the 10th part into chunks (it’s a series of repeat actions from the same starting position)
– Prepped part 2 for publication next week.
– Didn’t spend anytime on two swords.
– Friday class was excellent as always even though it was a near miss as a lot came crashing down right as I was about to start teaching. But always feel good after moving around with a sword and students.
This weekend I’ve got the workshop on Sunday. Looking forward to working on that with Sihong and online attendees.

Week 3
Focus: Two Sword Coordination and Spadone Forms
Plan: Practice two sword at least for a few minutes each day (it’s a pretty busy week). Get in some more serious Spadone practice on Wednesday.
Contingency: Two sword practice or visualization
-
Days 1 & 2
On Monday had a packed day so spent some time visualizing two sword actions before bed.
On Tuesday I spent some time doing rapier with my students and some sidesword assaults.

Week 2
Focus: Speed and power in sidesword and longsword forms.
Plan: Move from speed 1 to 5 in my exercises on the daily.
Contingency: Work on finishing my second spadone assolto documentation.
-
Day 5
At our open sparring night I got in a solid 2 hours of sparring practice either focusing on two sword where I was restricting myself to striking only with my left hand (not alway successfully) and to sparring with the spadone with a focus on guardia di intrare.
Day 6 & 7
Pretty light practice over the weekend. Got time on both days with two sticks practicing two sword forms with a focus on getting my left sword to do more work.
-
Day 4
Was feeling pretty tired and like I needed to reset my right shoulder and focus on back engagement. Spent 45 minutes working on the second assault for the spadone and shot videos of parts 7 and 8 after going through and rememorizing them.
-
Day 1
Sidesword ribbon cutting and downward X cutting from speeds 1 to 5 (along with working through the second assault)
Day 2
Rapier accuracy drills
Day 3
Longsword drills through various speeds.

Week 3
My main goal this week is to complete my retranslation and reinterpretation of Marozzo’s second assault of spadone.
I spent 3 hours on it today. Some good stuff. Seeing a few things I think have been badly translated by other that really change the meaning.
Spent some time on the roverso and falso impuntato which I still see as being two types of thrusts. Not sure about those who want to see something extra special in these.
Many more hours ahead yet.

Yesterday and today I’ve put in another 5 hours on the assalto. Making some interesting connections and some good headway in my Italian. 🙂

Last two days were the first days in a week of getting swords back into my hands since getting Covid. Everything is tired but was still happy to be able to do it to some degree.
Friday spent time teaching my two sword class practicing and teaching the crossed covers.
Today (Saturday) spent time working on my left hand precision with about 15 minutes of cutting and thrusting practice. Nothing fancy just moving.

Well I’ve been sick for a week but I’ve used it to work on the translation of the second assault as planned. translating (for practice) and doing up my interpretation grid. Enjoying it.

Wow that is very strange. I’m not certain why it’s not showing. Useful that you put this here.

So far I’m recovering fairly cleanly so I hope I miss all that nastiness.
Yeah look after yourself but of course life is always about managing various risks.

Sad to hear this. still better than getting covid! Got that last week and it wiped me out for about 10 days. still recovering a bit.
