What stood out to you?
That I need to work on thrusts alot more.
Did you have any big “aha moments” in your training?
I’m note sure on this one.
What was most challenging?
Time management again. And my sleep schedule and waking plan I had made very much fell apart.
Did you meet your own objectives?
Yes, I was able to get practice in everyday…even if it wasn’t as much as I wanted.
What do you think you might do differently next week?
It will be a work from home week, so I intend to steal more training time throughout the day.

So I was pretty amazed at how the thrusting form worked my shoulders and back in such a different way to all the cutting forms. But it was good. I felt I got a little stronger through the week.
A big challenge has been working with my left knee. I tend to have trouble with it…so I used some of my training time to really slow down with stances and stepping to try to get the mechanics of that left knee to a point where I am doing the correct movements with perfect alignment and not cause more damage to it.

I have still been using habitica to set up daily tasks lists for training and drills. It is serving me well.
I have managed to get sword in hand every day. After the last couple of live sessions, I have calmed down a little on trying to go super slow and get everything perfect…and have gone with the attitude of getting the broad strokes of everything in more quickly, then if I have time to come back, slow down and fill in details.
One challenge I had was learning the measures form and practicing it. I was trying to get it down and my son was in the next room being very loud and I just couldn’t concentrate and was beginning to be very frustrated. But instead of just trying to power through it, I stopped and took a deep breath. Then I moved on to the 12 poste progression instead. I was able to concentrate more fully on that one and got it down pretty good. Then go back to Measures form when I have more quiet time for concentration.

Foundational Cuts Form:
Things doing well:
Sending sword first.
I think I am keeping my weight balanced properly.
Things to improve on:
I think my elbows may be getting to high during mezzani.
More FLOW!!!! There are some points of hesitation when I transition between cuts.

Unarmed Poste:
Things doing well:
I seem to be turning my head to look before turning my body and sending my hands ahead of body and steps.
I was trying to keep my weight balanced a little forward on front leg and I think I succeeded.
Things to improve on:
Need to get more flowy.
Also need to work on how my back arm is coming into Dente de chingaro.

What stood out to you?
The depth of what I have gotten myself into…I could spend hours just working on moving in stance…or making downward x flow better or the unarmed poste drill.
Did you have any big “aha moments” in your training?
I definitely felt the influence of my kung-fu background in the way my body wanted to move. It was very interesting to see how the footwork and stances helped me learn some things that had evaded me for years in martial arts.
What was most challenging?
The most challenging thing was just balancing practice with work and family. They were very understanding for the most part :}
Did you meet your own objectives?
Not every day…I had one bad day where I just failed to get it all done…and then another where I couldn’t practice at all because I was on the road. But other than those two days…I did meet my objectives.
What do you think you might do differently next week?
I plan to take back even more scarce moments throughout the day to work on things.

What helps you stay motivated in your training?
I have to agree with Gurney Halleck on this one….I don’t really like the concept of motivation.
I prefer to focus on having the self-discipline to execute whatever I need to do. Even when I don’t
feel motivated or in the right mood.
What do you most enjoy in practice?
I enjoyed leaning into the repetitions and figuring out the tiny details that make the movements flow better.
What is a training activity or attitude that you dropped because you didn’t find it helpful?
Had difficulty finding time…as usual…so I dropped that attitude and just grabbed whatever time I could.

Thursday:
I did all of Posture and Movements and Cutting drills! YES! I also finished up Longsword Fundamentals assignments.
Friday: Finished up all of Posture and Movement and Cutting Drills today.
-
Tuesday:
I started earlier in the day, and since I was working from home, it was alot easier to work in a few minutes here and there to get reps done.
I completed all reps for Posture and Movement, and all reps for Sword Cutting drills.
Felt pretty great.
I also worked on more of the Longsword Fundamentals course work.
Wednesday:
Had to travel for work all day and didn’t get a single thing done.

-
Monday:
I started working on the Longsword Fundamentals I class.
I setup todo lists in habitica for practicing all the PostureAndMovement and Cutting reps.
I got through all the PostureAndMovement Reps, then started working through the Cutting reps. I did all the Fendente to centerline, Roverso Fendente to centerline, Downward and upward Xs, Mezzani, and completed 20 reps of the Foundational Cuts form.
I wanted to work slowly through all the reps and get a better understanding of all of them and really lean into making all my steps, stance weight, knee alignment and everything perfect and burn it into my muscle memory, but there was so much to do that I had to speed up to have any chance at finishing.
Then I looked up and it was 11pm. I really hated not finishing the other 40 reps of foundational cuts form, but I turned into a pumpkin anyway and went to bed.

I am working on testing out some new waking and sleeping alarms to get better sleep and find more time to train in the day. First plan will give me at least 30 min more in the morning.

I like how your sword form had more martial intent and you have all the blows and turns in correct order.
On some of your strikes you are moving your feet or body before your sword, so definitely work on that.
-
Sounds like Thunderstruck. :}
I really like your flow. Very smooth.
When you are transitioning from Frontale to Porta di Ferro I feel like your feet are too close together which could cost you your balance.
