Time management is my major block.
Too many other commitments(some that should be dropped).
Family responsibilities. Work responsibilities. Too many projects. Too many things left undone from the past(open loops). Disorganization.
I really enjoyed this section…thinking about schedules and routines and other tools has been very helpful in making a plan to fix much of this. I have also thought alot about how Kung-fu mastery, HEMA sword mastery, and mastering the self and life in general intersect.
One of my favorite quotes is from Carlos Castaneda, “Choose the path that has heart.”
I feel this can be very useful in overcoming blocks. Does this path have heart? If not, the block is that path, and you need to get back on the right path. If the path does have heart, then the block must be overcome directly…or the obstacle may well be the way.

Everyday training plan with minimum viable ideas.
Pushups to failure.
Animal flow warm up and flow drills.
Started with minimum of 5 minutes of sword training but have moved it up to 10 minutes.

Hello,
I too have a background in Chinese martial arts. I reached a plateau in my training and kinda got stuck there for over a year or so. I began feeling that something was missing or off. So I took a break from student teaching and my own training. I had heard of HEMA and also SCA stuff in the past but never really tried it out. So I started checking out online resources, and to my surprise I found that HEMA has very much flourished since the last time I looked in to it 10 years ago.
I started watching youtube videos, and reading forums. And I saw there were now online schools teaching European martial arts. I watched a few intro videos from each of them and really liked what I was hearing. Where Eastern Martial Arts shrouds many things in mystery and just hints at how to do things…it seems like Fiore and other mediaeval masters just bluntly put it in front of us to read. I also found that the HEMA community seems more concerned with keeping each other safe and expanding the art. I really appreciate that very much.
My son and I began studying longsword with a local club this past spring. We also studied broadsword and small sword to a lesser extent. We completed the first module and we passed the test for the first level of longsword in the club. But when winter came, it became tough to attend classes because of the short days and not having an indoor training space.
I was very happy to find a way to train from my home. It has been quite edifying and very fun so far. I very much look forward to the weeks ahead training with you.

I use my phone as a timer.
I use Habitica for forming habits and daily todo lists. It has reminders built in to it.
I also have a notebook I use for notes and journaling on this course.

I have a Regenyei feder, a Penti Type 3, and a Rawlings type synthetic. I also have various wooden dowels, tree branches, foam swords, bokken, pvc pipes, and metal poles.
I have a pell that has a flag pole mount that can hold metal or pvc pipes. I also have a heavy punching bag. I have a tripod that I am planning to setup much like the one in your video.
I will add some pictures in later this week.

I have a fairly large area where I can make several passing steps in different directions. I am using foam puzzle mats for the floor. I have my computer down here already so I can use that for my big screen. I have a web cam and also built in camera on laptop I can alternate between if I need to.
I will also be putting a large whiteboard nearby. I have an armor stand that holds my fencing mask and jacket that I really enjoy having as decoration when not training with those items. I would like to continue modifying the space to have less clutter and more inspiring decorations for sword work.
There is a standing vanity mirror against one wall I am hoping will be enough to get me started, until I can purchase better mirrors to put on the wall.
Sometimes the ceiling fan and I don’t get along very well. I would like to remove it and put in a low profile light so I don’t have to worry about it being overhead.
