Attacking to Near and Far Targets – Practice

Immediate Practice

5 minutes – Familiarize yourself with each of the measures.

  • Setup a target. This can be simply done by placing an object (that you can stab) on a table. You can also use a partner like the video.
  • Practice attacking the target at each measure. It’s important to practice attacking even when you are out of measure.

5 minutes – Practice moving between the measures

  • Take the defensive posture. Move back and forth with your eyes closed. Open your eyes and attempt to strike the target, using only as much movement as you need. This means if the target is very close, you need only go from the defensive posture into the offensive posture. If it is farther away you may need to lunge.
  • Practice 10 times with your sword in your right hand and 10 times with your sword in your left.
