Gaining the Angled Sword – Practice
Immediate Practice
5 minutes – Cutting against a posta breve framed on the right. 10 reps.
- Your partner should place their hilt at their right hip with their point angling back toward their centreline.
- Experiment with cutting on either side of their weapon with your partner offering resistance.
5 minutes – Cutting against a posta breve framed on the left. 10 reps.
- Your partner should place their hilt at their left hip with their point angling back toward their centreline.
- Experiment with cutting on either side of their weapon with your partner offering resistance.
5 minutes – Cutting against posta finestra on the right and left. 10 reps each.
- You can experiment with having your partner angle their sword between parallel, angling in, and angling down. You’ll find that some positions are easier to cut through than others.
- The partner’s head is not a very large target in these instances. You may want to experiment with striking lower targets and deepening the horizontal angle of your cut.
- Be sure to not gain your partner’s sword in their mezza spada. If you are too close to their point, their sword can easily slip free.
