    Week 4

It’s been a big travel week for me so I’ve been cramming training in wherever I can.

So far I’ve been really grooving out on some two-sword explorations. New pattern concepts, some new tactical ideas.

Been spending at least 20-30 minutes per day on it, even with sticks down here at home in Bellingham.

Looking forward to sharing with you all soon.

I have gotten in at least 30 minutes if dedicated practice the last few days including an hour and a half of two sword today.

Successes this week: expanding the two sword curriculum and my ideas around teaching it as well as building more coordination in my left hand.

Course corrections: more time for training. Longer times for training.

      Looking forward to next week.

    Week 3

Plan: This week I’m working on keeping up my running + sword practice together.

Focus: Spending time on two sword patterns with a focus on hip movement and connection as well as back engagement.

Schedule: Getting in regular morning practice and run/sword on Mon/Wed/Fri.

      Day 5 ctd…

Had a nice open floor. Only participated for about an hour. Which was what I needed. Focused on switching between speed 3 and 5 with Leo and with Ben worked on having Ben focus on being an Approaching Attacker. One thing I really found is that though I like the Sparring Gloves pretty well I find them awkward for acting on my roverso side, definitely craving something yet more maneuverable.

      Day 6

Two sword practice today as part of my private session. My back work has really made a difference. Really noticing much less fatigue and the workout is more centered where I want it — again toward my back and away from my elbows and shoulders.

      Day 5

Got my second run in for the week! 5 minute sword warm-up, 5 minute run, 3 minutes sword, 6 minute run, 3 minutes sword, 5 minutes run, 5 minutes sword. Today focused on longsword.

Tonight I’ll be doing open floor with folks. My plan is to focus on some two sword vs longsword as well as focusing on coaching and sparring games/scenarios vs any straight open sparring.

Day 1 – 4. So far so good, have had some great run/sword workouts. Only thing is I missed Wednesday completely because I got caught up from dawn to dusk and completely forgot. 🙁

Really enjoying my running workouts with sword work in between.

    Week 2

Plan: While I’m in Victoria get out on at least one run. Take at least 20 minutes for martial meditation each day.

While in Vancouver devote my mornings to mastery as I have been doing. Two hours training and reading.

Contingency: Spend some time on Marozzo reading.

      Day 7

Got in a truly enjoyable training session with Marli, Adrian, and Clint today. Lots of great drilling, laughter, and worked up a good sweat. Felt really nice.

      Day 5 and 6

On Friday I did a full workout in the morning. Felt great. Got in a sword fighting run working on longsword cutting, back engagement, and really worked it in the run. Also put in a meditation at the outset.

On Saturday I started my day with a martial meditation with two sword practice. Working through various patterns with a focus on increasing the smarts of my left hand. It’s really an imbecile compared to my right. 🙂

      Day 1-4

Alright, the win is that I’ve managed to get in some martial training and meditation in each day. It has not come in the order or time that I’d originally intended but it’s happened.

I forgot to bring my running gear to Victoria–intentional oversight? That was a shame and I didnt’ want to run in the rain in jeans. So this weekend I intend to get out into nature to run.

A win of a martial nature of sorts if that I’ve started putting out some personal blog posts, which I have not done in a while. The first is about breaking through the demons of perfectionism and I think it feels pertinent to a place I am at in my journey at the moment. Feels like a good win.

Thanks for the comment. You’re absolutely welcome. I think posts of encouragement or curiosity are great. I would avoid critical feedback unless invited (though I’m sure you that’s how you’d operate regardless).
