      Reflections

Victory Laps: Shot videos nearly everyday!

Aha Moments: Really enjoyed doing the first assault with sidesword and dagger.

Course Corrections: Shooting even crappy videos just to do it.

      Day 5

Started my training day with a martial meditation focused on sword alone. Then did my sidesword class.

      Day 6

Unarmed martial meditation. Then spent time working on two sword patterns and flow and shot a video of it!

Then an hour long run in the late evening.

      Day 7

Unarmed martial meditation. Then about 5 hours between the class, working on videos, and working with Mike afterward doing longsword in one hand. Was a really nice morning,.

      Day 3

Martial meditation with sidesword in both hands. Did an extra long set as well.

      Day 4

Martial meditation with longsword, focusing on speed and intensity. Scaling up from speed 1 to speed 6 while aiming to maintain back engagement and precision.

Then had two classes as well. 1: Longsword clearing the centre, 2: Rapier fighting on the circle.

Good workouts for me in both of them.

      Day 2

Martial meditation with the two handed sword. Focused in the training time on rotation in front and behind. Was a lot of fun.

Then later got in a practice and video shoot with a focus on unarmed poste. Nice to be shooting videos each day.

      Day 1

Meditation on its own in the morning followed by work on Marozzo’s second assault of sword and buckler. Then I spent 45 minutes teaching the first assault to our knight camp instructors.

This evening I spent another 45 doing Sidesword and Dagger practice.

    Week 4

Focus: Expanding my morning training time at least twice!

Schedule: Standard morning schedule with additional trainings later in the day when I can fit them in.

Plan: 20 to 30 minute martial meditations with a focus on flow and on intensity while maintaining order and structural alignment.

Contingency: Work on the Marozzo translations/interpretations

      Day 3

Short martial meditation in the morning. Pretty light training day but still got there.

      Day 4

Martial meditation on unarmed poste in the park.

Then got in a solid rapier training session as part of my class and sparring afterward with Erik (my assistant instructor and a Duello Provost). That was great and want to do more of it.

      Day 5

Two hours on Marozzo’s assault in the morning working through interpretations, then a one hour class on that subject as well. It was a blast.

      Day 6

Short martial meditation with unarmed techniques again. Then some time sword in hand at the school – about 20 minutes

      Day 7

An hour of sidesword and some flag from Alfieri’s manual on the subject while I was working with my student’s Marli and Adrian.

The flag is really satisfying and I can see why it was taught by quite a few fencing masters historically as a way of teaching body mechanics, order, and how to work with a weapons momentum and inertia.

      Day 1

Martial Meditation, 20 minutes. Unarmed striking and boxing combinations. Then got into my armour for a couple hours for the start of Knight Camp.

      Day 2

Martial Meditation for 20 minutes with staff. Focused on stability then on intensity. Also kept up my planking routine, extending it to 1:30.

Totally missed that on Day 5 I spent 2 hours working on a new translation and interpretation of Marozzo’s first assault of sword and buckler.

Great to see your post Tai. In some weeks I just report what I did for the week as you have here. Or I put in my daily reports in several blocks. Don’t feel restricted by the journal but do use it to help you stay accountable.

    Day 5

Part unarmed progression, part spear in the morning. Short time but keeping it on the schedule. Then went for an hour run in the evening. It was hard but good.

    Day 6

Got up early to get in a full practice. Focused on unarmed striking, unarmed poste, and spear progressions.

    Day 7

Short practice in the morning just 10 minutes. But then got into Duello and did a longer practice with sidesword and played a bit with Ben’s Albion Leichtenauer. It’s an enjoyable sword. 🙂

Got out into the backyard here and did some unarmed forms and some staff as well as a meditation.

    Day 4

Longsword forms and flow and a double length meditation. Expanded my core time by about 15 minutes. Then went for a one hour run.
