    Week 1 Catch Up

Has been a very busy month at the outset but I have managed to keep my daily practice alive and well even on the last few days of travel.

Have also been shooting some videos for the martial meditation which has been an enjoyable personal practice while doing that.

A lot of focus on back engagement.

Woah fell off the face of the earth there for a moment. I actually did stuff everryday this week.

Days 1-3 Did my marital meditation and some other training.

Day 4 Flew to California at 7am. Got up at 4am to do my martial meditation (yeah I’m serious about not missing this). Then taught my noon class from the backyard at the inlaws.

Day 5 Got my full morning workout in, taught my sidesword class, and then got in 2 hours of sparring with Stephen Fratus who came over to assist me. Sidesword, sword and buckler, and spear!

Day 6 and 7 Martial meditations with some extended sword work. Glad to get these in. Mostly using a stick! Flew home on day 7.

      Reflection for the Week

Aha Moments: Staying devoted and not precious about exactly how precise I am in my morning routine has been excellent.

Victory Laps: Getting up at 4am to spend time meditating and swording.

Course Corrections: I think I’m on track.

      Week 3 Reflection

Victory Laps: Got in all my extra practices that I wanted and a good martial meditation every morning. Also had one of the absolute best runs I have had to date.

Aha Moments: The way that habits create a backbone in our life to tie other new disciplines to.

Course Corrections: I’m going to connect additional training to running. I really enjoyed when I connected them this past week.

Great way to do things Tai. Get a rhythm going then expand it in reasonable and sustainable ways. Make your practice unstoppable!

Sad to hear you’re in lockdown again. Glad you’ve got a sword and some good books to keep you occupied. 🙂

    Week 2 Reflection

Victory Laps: Met my video recording goal for the week. Shot a few versions of the Partisan form and enjoyed the one I published but also the process of analyzing my form and making improvements.

I’m also very happy that my meditation and sword practice has been so successful.

Another aspect of my past few weeks if that I have largely eliminated *numbing* practices from my life. It’s a personal challenge I took on for a week and that has expanded to three weeks. It’s starting to get easier now to avoid time suck things I used to do to avoid sitting with myself or my feelings.

Aha Moments: There is so much to be said for just making the absolute first thing you do in the day picking up a weapon and starting a flow drill.

Course Corrections: I want to make more time for some vigorous practice. That is something I want to do better to schedule and will be in the focus for this week.

    Day 7

Pretty light day today. Did some staff spinning and movement exercise this morning as part of my meditation. Then spent my day in a course and my evening out on a canoe trip. Glad I have this morning practice to help keep my martial art in mind no matter where the day takes me.

PS I’m very happy to give a specific assignment to you or anyone else in Masters Club.

Consider the idea of approaching the assessments as a guide for what’s next. Pick the first one in the list, or the first one that speaks to you. I can then help you with shaping some training aimed at it.

Alternately, just shoot it and submit it, and then we can use that for a target for training — or move on to the next one! 🙂
