Do 100 fendentes!
Done?
🙂 I have a few strategies I follow to get my mojo going again:
1. Go back to the basics. Work on a form or set of drills. Sometimes I video myself and then use that to motivate my improvements.
2. Pickup something new. Like an assault or diff weapon to get inspired.
3. Team up with a buddy and train with them or do what they do.
Another thing to consider is to start working through the skill assessments. Shoot the vid, compare yourself to the exemplar, practice an improvement then submit for feedback. This same idea can be useful with the forms too.
I’m interested to hear how others motivate themselves.

Week 2 Focus
Focus: Continuing my exploration of powerful movement and martial expression and intensity. Also continuing my daily martial meditation.
Schedule: Monday to Sunday starting with martial meditation. 30 minutes of additional training each day and 2 video sessions.
Plan: Finish my translation of the third assault and start memorizing it.
Contingency: Just the meditation. Reading Marozzo.

Day 5
Sword meditation in the morning. With longsword. Taught my sidesword class on a break from the online conference I’m in this weekend. Then made some time to practice sidesword patterns during one of the sessions for 20 minutes in the afternoon. Was fun to intrigue some of the attendees.
Day 6
Longswoed meditation time in the early morning. Up at 6 for this conference.
Then made time at the end of the day to spend 20 minutes in the backyard doing drills and play builds between right and left hand. Listened to a book at the same time.
The book, a memoire, is at once beautiful and harrowing.

Day 4
Sword meditation with longsword today.
Then spent 45 minutes in the afternoon on the partisan form. Made corrections that I wanted to. Feeling good about it. Shot a vid that will be going out to everyone as a short learning aid for it.

Day 3
Sword meditation in the morning.
This evening work on the partisan form with a focus on core engagement, loading the back leg, and left hand precision.
-
Day 2
Martial meditation in the morning then an hour and a half of partisan practice in the evening as well as shooting a bunch of video. Not pleased with all the results but found a few things to work on.

Day 1
Started with a partisan movement meditation for 20 minutes.
Then spent 90 minutes in the evening doing sword exercises at the juggling and circus practice that some friends host. Went out into the woods and shot 3 more vids of the first assaults with different levels of intensity in the expression. I really like the results.

Week 1 Reflections
Victory Laps: Got a sword or spear in my hand in a rewarding way everyday of the week and I made personal videos on 2 occasions which met my goal.
Aha Moments: Starting with my sword meditation is sometimes challenging but always rewarding. It’s easiest for me to just make it my first thing, no matter what.
Course Corrections: I feel good and on track. I want to continue to carve out more time for training and learning.

Day 5 – 7
Got good training sessions in the last few days of the week. Everyday started with a martial meditation. I then took time to work on assaults, and a bunch of partisan on Saturday in prep for my workshop and on Sunday before and during the workshop. It was a really fulfilling week.

Day 4
Instead of doing my usual start of day meditation I went on a 3.5 hour hike up a local mountain. Then I did an hour of longsword class with @steve.frey and later an hour rapier class. Both went great and I got in lots of reps myself.
My legs and calves are feeling it in a good way today after the combined workouts.

Day 3
Sword meditation with longsword first thing.
Turned one of my meetings into a sidesword practice. Spent the time doing flow and parry exercises with an emphasis on hip movement. 45 minutes.

Glad to see you Tai! Starting with a No Zero day goal is a really great place to start. And celebrate it when you do it!
It’s easy to do it and then say “well it really wasn’t very much”. Don’t do that. Catch yourself and instead say “I’m awesome. I got the sword in my hand. I did the little practice!” Succeed at that for a few weeks then see what you can add to it while keeping momentum.
