Week 4
Focus: Path of the warrior
Schedule: Movement meditation with the sword as my first thing each day starting Tuesday. Followed by work on Marozzo interpretation and at least 3 video shooting times based on the weather.
Plan: 20 minutes meditation, 10 sword, 10 sitting. Minimum 20 minutes of interpretation time with book and sword. If it’s nice get out and shoot a video.
Contingency: Just the reading.

Week 3
Focus: Sword in hand everyday.
Schedule: 15-30 minutes Marozzo and shoulder engagement will be easy workout. Otherwise I have a lot of other word activities already scheduled each day with some special demos and video projects.
Plan: Focusing on shoulder engagement with my left buckler shoulder and steel mace. Otherwise I’m working on some video projects that will keep me working sword in hand each day. Working on demonstrating 3 different actions: true fight, adaptive fight, deceptive fight, with each weapon of the system.
Contingency: Two swords with the sticks for a few minutes working through the three core patterns.

Week 3 Reflection
Victory Laps: Felt good about getting a sword into hand everyday, even in a very challenging week.
Aha moments: It’s super easy to not have a zero day now. I just pick the sword up and do stuff. I don’t feel precious about it but I feel good about it.
Course Corrections: I’m going to focus on sword in my morning meditation next week.

Day 6 & 7
Small practice. Sword in hand at the beginning of the day working through some two sword forms just to get moving.

Whew this week really got me. Was super slammed but managed to keep up my training even if I wasn’t able to pop on here and journal as regularly as I’d like.
Day 1
Got a sword in my hand early. Worked on sword patterns and shoulder and back engagement. Small practices but sword in hand none the less.
Day 2
I got my vaccine on day 1 and was really hurting on this day but I had a presentation to prepare for on Wednesday so I had to get a sword in my hand.
Spent 30 minutes working out a way of demonstrating true fight, deceptive fight, and adaptive fight with rapier, sidesword and buckler, and longsword. I created forms for each weapon in each fight that matched intentions. So you could see how the same concepts and even techniques were employed with the different weapons of the system.
Day 3
I demonstrated the forms I created on day 2 and spent about another hour demoing and showing of swordplay skills for Manouchehr on the Rafmasfzar Youtube channel. Was a ton of fun. I’ll post a link when its live.
Day 4
Longsword and rapier classes. Full on hours of practice for me this week.
Day 5
Sidesword class as well as some personal time working on the Marozzo assault and back engagement.

Sounds like a great week Paul!

nice to see the catch up post. I’ve had to do a few of those myself. 🙂

You’re getting close to finishing up the Masterclass. That’s awesome!!

Ack! Just go touch a sword right now! Swing it a couple times and break the sword fast!

Reflections for Week 2
Overall I feel like I kept a good consistent rhythm, even with everything going on, and enjoyed my practices both small and big.
Aha Moments: Had some really good aha moments as I worked through the Thibault material with Michael about pausing as you enter into measure in the way that thibault does. I do this same idea with the extension of my arm, others do it with their feet — quite interesting.

Day 7
Super packed! Got lots of sword in hand time during the Strategy workshop on Spring into Swordplay, then spent another 2 hours after doing some rapier with Michael working through Thibault’s chapter 33 (how to fight against Fabrisian postures). We then spent some time just fencing. It was grand!
This week I feel rather spoiled.

Day 4
Did a half hour of sidesword in the morning plus my two classes: Longsword, working on entries, and rapier working on refused postures and transitions. Good sore-making day.
Day 5
Kept it a bit easier with Sidesword class as my main practice. Lots of reps demonstrating grappling entries and disarms.
Day 6
Did a short sidesword practice today and focused on workshop prep for tomorrow.

Day 3
This was a pretty awesome day. I started in the morning with 30 minutes of shoulder stabilization workout beginning with practicing the crow pose, then doing buckler posture holding and steel mace, and finally runs through the fist assalto.
Then in the evening I taught a 1.5 hour workshop on tactical control that was a blast to deliver AND bonus was a student came up from Seattle to assist me. So I got in an additional hour of fencing afterward. That was a rare pleasure to have in these times.

Day 1
Got in a nice 30 minute session at the beginning of the day. Working on shoulder stability and Marozzo.
Day 2
Worked on steel mace, and buckler guard position holding. It’s definitely getting stronger.
