A folded over piece of leather that is secured in place by tape can be a good solution. The reason I recommend securing it with tape is that one of the worst sword blunt injuries I have seen was a sword slipping out the side of a leather fold over and then going under someone’s gorget and into their throat…

One thing people do to create a period look while having a modern blunt is they use a modern blunt and then cover that blunt with a cloth bag and twine wrap or some such.

Another interesting way of making a blunt is to affix a shell casing or other piece of metal over the end (one friend used a round bell with the little ball taken out from inside of it), then use a tool dip to create the rubber blunt around that and carve it to your needs.

    Week 1

Focus: Get back to that darn Marozzo’s first assault!

Schedule: 15 minutes, at least, first thing. Sword in hand. Then more committed time then or later if I can make it. (it’s a busy week)

Plan: Do the assault 10x fast and fluid. Commit strongly to memory so that I can do it with more emphasis for the video.

Contingency: I think this should be sustainable but if I can’t train for whatever reason I’m going to spend more time re-reading the Flowers of Battle Volume 1 front matter.

      Victory Laps

Keeping in a rhythm even during an extremely busy week. Even a small rhythm!

      Aha Moments

That shifting my running program is probably a good idea for my calves!

      Course Corrections

Simplifying my running program. Being diligent about getting a sword in my had first thing, even in a small way.,

      Day 5, 6 & 7

Alright I got in my marozzo practice on Day 5. Day 6 the main accomplishment was my second run on my new program. Man I was ridiculously sore afterward. Still working on adapting — did enjoy it though! I’m running nearly as far as I was before but in half the time. Day 7 was a superb time working with all of you and so many others on the Mechanics of Sparring workshop. I’m still going to get in a bit of marozzo work before the day is done.

      Day 4

Hopped right into 15 minutes of training on the Assalto as the first thing I did after getting up. Felt good.

Then taught an hour of longsword on grappling entries, and an hour of rapier on refused postures.

Also started a new plan for my running. I’ve been having very intense calf pains the last few runs. So I’ve decided to go back to where Anneka is in her program with a run walk. In that program I’m working on changing my running from shorter steps and toe strike to longer steps and mid strike. It was harder! and the calf pain did not present. So good on two accounts. I also ran a lot further!

      Day 1

Got in about 1.5 hours working through sidesword engagement and precision drills while talking on the phone with a friend. Not my most attentive practice but still good for my body.

      Day 2

30 minutes in the morning working on longsword play building.

      Day 3

Into my Marozzo training plan. 20 minutes of fast and hard training on the first assault. Made it thorugh at least half of my 10 times completely error or pause free.

      Aha Moments

Nothing stood out to me in particular this week.

      Victory Laps

Really enjoyable week of keeping my rhythm and enjoying time sword in hand but not being too forceful of what I needed to accomplish.

      Course Corrections

Getting in at least a 15 minute workout at the beginning of the day to get it done early.

      Day 5

Then I shot a new video for sidesword on deceptions. Spent a couple hours sword in hand doing that. Was enjoyable.

      Day 6

Reading. Had a full day and was feeling under the weather again.

      Day 7

Teaching all the find Masters Club folks in the Scholars Assault workshop — got to go through the assault myself a ton of times.

      Day 4

An hour of longsword focusing on in place flow and reversing the sword. Tons of fun to teach and practice with everyone.

Then an hour of rapier and dagger crossed covers with my students. Also an interesting topic I don’t cover very often and lends itself well to solo practice and online teacher.

And went on an hour run. My calves are so sore!

Hey Bob, any idea why all this code is ending up in your post? Did you copy and paste it from somewhere else? I see it happening to various people’s posts sometimes and @GregR and I would like to get to the bottom of it.
