Edited and tested the small, medium, and big practice for Week 4. Pleasantly sweaty. I like it, and I hope you enjoy it too! Also started reading Fabris’s manual. I’ve read the intro of it (up to the start of the plates) a few times, but I’d like to try and get through the whole thing end-to-end this time.

Big practice today. 61 minutes given that my mobility is somewhat limited inside the house. No complaint! The music background played Boots or Hearts just as the footwork drills came up. Funny (to me, at least). Finished with my favourite stretch routine I’ve had going for years now. All very satisfying.

30 min light kettle bells, 30 min yoga, most of the small practice (right handed and left handed).

Our house is small! I did some with the sword and some with the pipe. Had hockey on as background noise to keep from getting too uptight about what I was doing. I need to stay relaxed and just get my rhythm going.

hi Thomas. Ben reviewed your video on January 26. Maybe you didn’t get the email notification? View this page below to see his comments.

Let me know if you have any other questions. (Something tells me we need to do a roundup of all of the incomplete assessments to be sure students got the feedback.)

The day is too short. Did a kettlebell workout in the evening. Kept my food menu clean. Worked on SPM and MC site a bunch. More tomorrow.

hi Daniel. You’re not missing anything. We’re preparing instructions for access to the rest of the stuff, and we’ll have that to you this week. It’s coming!

Don’t hesitate to ask about anything else. Cheers!

More elaborate plans to come, but at least I picked up my sword for a very short session today before work. Half cuts to the rope using mezza and tutta volta with pivot steps, then thrusts to the rope with triangle steps. It’s a nice mellow rhythm to start the day.

hi @jeffrey.mcalpine , thanks for sending this in. I’m marking this complete–all the guards are there (save a little confusion over a couple of them, perhaps.) I’m also being a little picky because I want you to get this to the point where you can sign off on the Skills Assessment for it as well. But let’s start here.

Things to keep: the majority of your guards are well-formed. Keep doing that. You’re got good upper body posture and a consistent bend in the knees. You move smoothly from guard to guard, and look focused while you’re doing it. Great!

Things to improve: I think posta longa and porta di ferro mezzana are reversed? Take a look back at the instructions and decide for yourself. Keep working on the footwork required to achieve all of the direction changes–that’s a valuable bit of training in and of itself. I’ve left you a bunch more feedback in the email response–let me know you got that. I hope it helps you as you continue to train this form. I look forward to seeing future versions!

    Good job. Keep going! 👍

Thanks for sending this in, @bob.randolph

Things to keep: I liked your “on-topness” of your sword–you were always working to control your opponent’s blade. Your actions were clear, and the play had a consistent pace to it.

Things to improve. Picky, but you might be able to relax your grip on the sword, it looks a little tight at times. The parry to your inside results in an awkward bend of the wrist–better to pivot your body to the opponent’s blade and structurally align yourself behind yours. The ending thrust could be more direct, with less reaching for your opponent’s sword after you have parried it–let it come to you if need be, and cover yourself as you finish.

Good job! Keep it up! 👍

hi Thomas. Thanks for submitting this.

Excellent provocation as you enter measure, flowing smoothly into your parry. Good job extending your arms before stepping into the thrust. Pass sans mezza volta was well done. Good retreat.

Can’t say there’s too much wrong here; I thought it was very good overall. Maybe let your front foot turn with the volta stabile that takes you into reverse-weighted finestra, so that it points sideways and less forward.

Very well done. Keep it up! 👍

hi Thomas, thanks for sending this in. You’re looking good. All components are there.

You flow smoothly from one action to another. That’s nice to see. Your defensive actions are clear and your intent is there. Your reverse-weighted finestra is well-formed. Nice guarded retreat.

You could square up to the target (camera) a little more sometimes–you end up with your front foot pointed crossline to the target on occasion after a big turn of the body. Picky: there’s a little bit of bobbing after you take that step into measure; it would be good to be still and composed after that provocation.

    Marked complete. Great job! 👍

Thanks for sending this in Daniel. I can see you put a lot of work into this, and I’m so proud of you for that. Bravo! We can agree that this was a big project, and likely enough content to work on for a long time to come.

I liked your focus. Sometimes nervous, but often laser-like. Good job adjusting yourself to provide for your space–that’s good awareness. And all of the pieces (16 of them!) were there in order.

Things to improve: keep low in your guards. Sometimes you remember to crouch and squat and it makes your guards look great. Watch your front toe that it (and you front knee) doesn’t point crossline to the target. You can also continue to work on the order of things. Be deliberate about extending your arms into a thrust before stepping.

Marked complete. Keep it up! 👍

Like! Guardia di faccia will have the point forward and blade flat to the ground–yours looks more like frontale with the point up. Good job!👍
