Not logging as much as I could, but getting my workout in every day—kettlebells and hiking, mostly. New motivations have me moving and pursuing goals. Picked up a sword holder. I’ll post pics once I have it set up.

Spent most of the day working, but did get in a big long walk up the mountain. That was good. Picked up my sidesword for a very short rope-cutting session. Kept food in check. I might get to squeeze in a Fabris reading yet. A good day.

I’d say this week was a win of sorts. I didn’t do as much training as I wanted to, but I ended up doing much more than minimum.
Sunday night I tested out the Big practice for week 2. That was good. I enjoyed it. Those largo and stretto defense forms are monster! And with added footwork assignments in there it made it really interesting.
I’m also slowly making my way through the Fabris manual. Some days I read a chapter or two. Other days I go back and re-read a chapter, just to try and get a little more out of it. It’s a dense book, and worth much meditation.
A pleasure to be on this journey with you all.

hi @paul . What’s the assessment you’re working on? Can you provide a URL or the name of the assessment? Thanks.

Built and tested the timing for next week’s Short and Medium practice sessions. I liked it.

Hi Stela. I don’t think you’re alone–several students found assessment email in their spam box.
You can review the status of every assessment on your Students Assignments page. Click the disclosure triangle to see all of the assessments submitted and their status. For each assessment, click on the assessment title or the comments link to be taken directly to your assessment submission. You can read the instructor’s comments there and respond if needed.
I hope that helps. Let us know how it goes.

Contingency: Read Fabris for 5 minutes. Thrusting is better than cutting, he says.

hi @david.schullinger-krause . Sorry I missed the timing on this post. The things to focus on go in this order:
1. Posture
2. (Order of) Movement
3. (Blade) Control
4. Measure
5. TempoAnd much else after that. But the first two are the biggies. I hope you enjoyed your session! Let us know how it went.

hi Thomas. Thanks for sending this in. The amount of work and thought you put into this is obvious. Bravo!
#1 Consider what “passing offline” might look like in that maneuver.
I really like #3, and it follows beautifully what we studied in the German swordplay workshop today for the Krumphau–a “crooked” breaking strike against the sword. Your frontale interpretation was a very good rendering of that idea.
#4 is interesting. Your blow appears to come from below, or perhaps across, whereas the text says “fendente to the head”, implying a downward blow to the head that continues down on the angled fendente line. Perhaps the opponent’s thrust is aimed under your frontale guard (because of a feint of theirs to draw you up?), and your action is to pass back with the cut, then apply a couple of thrusts?
Approved! Great job. Keep going! 👍

hi Paul. Did you send me your DuelloTV account email address? Send it to info@duello.tv and I can set you up. Cheers!

hi Jeffrey. I got your second submission, and it looks good. Your cuts are all there, and you made good corrections based on feedback given.
Continue to work on getting a little “longer” in your reach. You don’t want to over-extend, but you can either reach further with your point, or let the arms do their work further out in front of the body.
Approved! Greg job, keep going! 👍

hi @jade.standing . Thanks for sending this in! Every piece was there, and your cutting/thrusting order was good, with the sword moving out in front of you (it’s really good at the start of a sequence). Your cutting lines are accurate with good edge alignment.
Watch those roverso mezzani half cuts: your first one (B6) appears to use a tutta volta, where you should be aiming to use a mezza volta (a smaller crescent instead of a circle turn). The second one (D5) looks like you’re trying to do a grip change, where none should be needed. Those are tricky—keep working on them.
Approved! Great work on these, your time practicing it is obvious. Keep going! 👍
